Since my freshman year, I’ve been interested in teaching English as a foreign language and traveling abroad. At first, I wanted to go to Japan, but after doing more research, I started considering places like Thailand, China, or South Korea.
I’ve always wanted to teach and help children learn, but I didn’t major in it because I knew it doesn’t always pay well long term. I’ve always had more of a business mindset, so I wanted something with more flexibility. When I found out about TEFL, it felt like the perfect way to combine teaching, working with children, and traveling.
Right now, I’m considering getting my TEFL certification over the summer. From my research, programs can cost anywhere from $100 to $2,000, but I also found someone who used Groupon and got their classes for around $30.
I’m still figuring out my options, but I’m excited to start taking steps toward this goal. If you’re interested, here’s a link to the website and a video about someone’s experience.
